Behind the Design

Well hello there dear reader.

Firstly, I need to address the fact that I am the worst at keeping this little corner of my website up to date. I will always try to be better and set good intentions, however life does seem to get in the way sometimes!

I wanted to come back with a bang and I thought the best way to do that would be to take a look at my design process and what you get from me when you hire me as your designer.

There are a few ways that you can work with me, from a one off consultation to full design and project management, but for today I am going to talk through the full design process.

Ok, so lets imagine you’ve reached out and we have booked in our initial meeting, wahey. I will come and visit you at your home so that you can walk me through your space and we can have an informal chat about what you feel you need and how I feel I can help you. This chat is completely free and if you decide at the end that you wouldn’t like to proceed with me, then that is absolutely fine. It’s super important to me that my clients feel that they can trust me with their precious home!

After this meeting I will book in a time to come back and conduct a site survey - which is a posh way of saying - take measurements, sketches and pictures! I may also run over some brief ideas with you and look at some colour swatches in this time, to see how they react with the light. Colour always plays a big role in all of my designs, so I want to make sure that we start knowing the colours that work well in the space.

Once I have all of my notes, sketches and measurements, I will go away and start work on the concept.

The concept consists of inspiration images, colour palettes and a list of everything that is needed within the room. It also has a rough budget breakdown and information on how the space will look and feel.

Once signed off, the concept then becomes the framework and rules that I follow when designing the space.

It is then time for me to crack on with the design. This is the part where everything is brought together, such as floorplans, lighting plans, colour palette, moodboards, FF&E specification and 3D visuals of the space.

I will come to your home for the design presentation and talk you through the design, showing you drawings and samples so that you get a good feel of what I am proposing.

This image is an example of a 3d visual that you get as part of the full design package. It really helps clients understand my vision!

Let’s imagine now that you signed everything off - woop! (if you didn’t I would make the changes and send them over for approval!)

So now we get the quotes in from the Trades. I have my own trades that I trust and can highly recommend, however if you have trades that you know and want to use that is fine too. Once quotes have been approved and start dates booked in, we pencil in procurement trigger dates and the fun part begins!

If you have opted for the full design and project coordination package then I take care of everything from booking in the trades, to procurement and the scheduling and running of the project from start to finish.

So that’s the design process in a nutshell. There are many moving parts as I’m sure you can imagine, but this is the overall step by step.

If you fancy having a chat about your project, I would love to talk to you! You can go to the contact page on here, or email me interiorstories@outlook.com

I can’t wait to hear from you!
