How to use Sage Green successfully in your home
It’s not secret that I love green. I wear green, my house is covered in it and I was even named after a shade of green!
I see green as a neutral. In fact, I find it easier to choose a shade of green than I do a shade of white. Green is the colour of nature and in nature, throughout the seasons, we see green sit happily next to almost every colour.
The shade of 2022 is sage green. Every paint brand is highlighting a sage this year because not only do we all LOVE it, but its such a warm and nurturing shade. The natural tones make it easy to incorporate into your home because it will pretty much go anywhere with anything. It lends itself to be paired with rustic woods and textures, and also with more traditional and modern settings. Its such a versatile shade!
So what do you need to look for when choosing your perfect shade of sage? Firstly, where is it going? Make sure that you consider the function of the room as this will determine the intensity of the shade that you need. For example, you can go bolder in a kitchen as its usually the hub of the home so high energy is needed. In a bedroom you’re going to want a softer shade.
Then observe the light that you get in the space. South facing rooms can take stronger shades, but will accentuate the warmth so opt for a more muted shade. North facing will require a warmer undertone.
Once you have found the perfect shade for your space, you need to choose the rest of the scheme. As I mentioned above, due to its natural pigments, sage tends to sit quite happily next to most colours. Consider what kind of scheme you are hoping to achieve and this will determine the coordinating colours that will work. For example, a bold and dramatic scheme will require a contrasting colour and possibly a bold pop. So a red or orange would give you this feel. For a soft and subtle scheme, try a stone or a very pale earth shade as these will emphasise the natural hues of the colour and will create a calming palette.
