Five things I’m loving on Instagram right now…

Hello everyone!!

Firstly, I need to apologise for the lack of post last week, it was my sons 5th birthday so we spent the day making a huge fuss over him. It was a weird birthday, spending it in lockdown, but the amount of love he still received was amazing!! Were we on zoom all day, his grandparents dropped a cake and sang happy birthday from the driveway and he had so many lovely messages, cards and gifts. I was worried that it was be disappointing for him, but he didn’t once moan or complain that we weren’t doing anything fun. It definitely makes you realise that you don’t need all the fancy parties and decorations to make a birthday special, its all about love and time spent together.

I hope you have had a good week? I’m going to chat about some interior trends that I am seeing a lot of on Instagram at the moment and I am HERE for them!!!! I think from the below we can see that we are definitely moving away from grey and more into soft neutrals and that white is making huge waves. Things are becoming more pared back and natural and I am loving it,. For those of you who know me and my style, you’ll know that pared back and natural is a bit of me.

Whether its in the kitchen, bathroom or utility, I am seeing a lot of wooden cabinetry. The huge trend for painted wood is still around but I love the classic and timeless feel of bare wood cabinets. This gorgeous combo of natural wood and white cabinets puts a modern twist on a timeless design which means it will never go out of style.

Rugs in Kitchens

I know that this is a bit marmite but i love rugs in kitchens, I have one in mine! Yes it gets a bit of food spilt on it from time to time, but as long as you make sure it is a woven flat weave or an indoor/outdoor rug, they are easy to clean. Rugs can add some pattern, colour and interest to a kitchen and also some warmth and depth. Ours is nice to stand on and keeps our feet warm, and that’s not sexist at all because my husband does most of the cooking!! I’m useless in that department!

Oversized statement lighting

I love a statement light and I’m seeing so many fabulous ones on Instagram. Lights are a great way to play with scale, perspective and texture. They can be hung at differing heights to bring some depth to a scheme adding interest at a point of a room that nothing else can. I love hanging pendants low over a console or bedside tables in place of a lamp, and you can’t beat a pendant over a dining table or kitchen island, the bigger the better in my opinion.

Canopy/Four Poster Beds

Elegant and eye catching, the Four Poster bed certainly makes a stand out piece in any bedroom. I don’t know about you, but to me Four Posters have a real sense of grandeur and elegance about them yet they kinda freak me out a bit. I think the film, ‘Scrooge’ did it for me when there was a ghost the other side of his curtain. However I’ve seen a lot of canopy beds on Instagram that are without fabric and are beautifully elegant with clean lines and subtle detail and I’m all for this. You definitely need a large room to be able to pull this off, but a four poster would make such a beautiful addition to a bedroom and you’d go to bed every night feeling like Royalty.

Rattan/Wicker chairs

Rattan and wicker made their way indoors a while ago now but we mainly saw them in the form of console tables, lampshades and baskets. Well now they’re everywhere, I’m seeing lots of wicker stools, dining chairs, tables and even armchairs!!! These materials which are often seen outdoors, are literally bringing the outdoors in. They add a soft and warm touch to a scheme and have a certain charm about them. These armchairs make me think of an elderly couple, somewhere in the South of Central America, sitting on their porch watching the world go by. Personally I’m not sure if I’m ready for wicker armchairs but I really REALLY want some for my garden!!

Let me know what you think of these insta trends and whether you would implement any in your home? As always I hope you are keeping well and safe and I’ll be back again next week with another Five.

Lots of Love
